Philippe Lesage hails from Flanders. His knowledge of the region and its roots is informed by a real interest in landscapes shaped by man, as shown by his works on the Dunkerque port, on “ordinary houses” or on shipbuilding sites.
The construction of the cross-Channel fixed link gave him material for a broad, 900-hectare field of investigation, where he examined a moment of history, a moment of landscape… His study is a question of intrusion, of a tenuous, already bygone moment of transition from one state of affairs to another, as the “construction site of the century” starts to appear on the land.
