Lille is an old European city that developed during the industrial revolution of the 19^th century. Liepzig, Michael Scheffer’s birthplace, has had a similar fate. For different historical reasons, they both underwent major developments at the end of that century. Michael Scheffer works in a style that is not at all documentary. To him, the notion of territory is above all a mental one. The photographic world he created is that of the solitary wanderer’s daydreams in an urban environment.
